Oh this story. When I found out about Kitchen_concert, I knew I was going to do a story on it. Two people filming local bands in their kitchens? I am there.
I went all out with the interviews. I interviewed the two people behind the series and two bands that participated (I had more interviews planned but my deadline was moved up). So that’s five voices total. Here’s where the problem came in… editing all of it. It wasn’t that people talked over each other or gave me lame sound bites. In fact, I had a lot of good stuff to work with.
The issues I dealt with were all technical. I had to deal with an echo in my phone interview with Bobby. Leanna had to be recorded on my Zoom recorder because she was echoing too (their interviews were done at the same time). With Bold! Daring! True!, I interviewed Stephanie through Skype. It came out pretty good, but the recording program delayed my voice so it overlapped on some soundbites and then every now and then the audio would crack which made the soundbite unusable. With Tactics, I had to deal with random people walking by and the wind. That wasn’t so bad but adding the other situations made the whole process stressful.
This is what it looked like after the first round of editing (I forgot I added another clip right before I mixed it down):
The end result is not perfect, but considering the circumstances, I’m pleased with the results.
By the way, here is Bold! Daring! True!’s kitchen_concert:
